Introduction to Shanghai
Shanghai (translates to mean "on the sea" ) is situated on the bank of the Yangtze River Delta, with East River in the east and Hangzhou delta in the south. It was once a small town supported by fishing and weaving before the first Opium War. Today, housing, a population of over 16 million at present, Shanghai is one of the largest cities in the world. If you simply count heads, Sh¨¤nghai is the biggest city in the biggest country on Earth. If you simply scan statistics, this is China's capital of commerce, industry, and finance. But numbers don't tell the whole story. Sh¨¤nghai has a colonial past more intense than that of any other city in China, save Hong Kong, and this legacy gives it a dramatic character, visible in the very facades of its buildings. But the city is not only a museum of East meeting West on Chinese soil. In the past 10 years, Shanghai's GDP has grown 10% each year. Shanghai is China's most comprehensive industrial and commercial city. Overseas investment is encouraged not only in industrial projects, but also in the sectors such as commercial, trade, software, financial, tourism, real estate, etc.
